I was never one of those who dream about going to Paris. Not even close, in fact. I didn’t quite get what is it with people wanting to go to Paris, I had my belief firmly established that Eiffel Tower is going to just be another disappointment.
So, what made me go to Paris?
This is quite a good story, maybe boring for others, but I love telling & re-telling this.
During the second leg of my post grad, I was in Berlin. Paris was on the cards not because of the obvious tourist reasons but because one of my best friends was in the Paris campus of our school. Then came along a wonderful assignment in my Retail Practices class, where if you won the semi-finals, you got to go to Paris for the finals. I cannot say how (or why) exactly it happened but the two of us who wanted to visit our third friend in Paris happened to be in the same team & we won the semis. 😀 Sponsored trip to Paris, yayy!
The trip was everything that I wanted it to be. The three of us are famous for doing absolutely nothing when together, we nailed that part. , . We did all the tourist-y things that one is supposed to do on their first trip to Paris, except Moulin Rouge because student budget
- Got mugged in Paris (how can you come back from that city without getting mugged?)
- Spent time looking at the Eiffel Tower & being emotional about random things in life
- Scouted the random streets of Champs Elysees & other random Parisian streets
- Went to Louvre because free student pass 😛
- Soaked in the artists, the beautiful cafes, the view from top of the hill & the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Mont Martre (camera gave up here)
While my counterpart still believes that Paris is very overrated, I was awed by this beautiful city. The sad part is I cannot quite put my finger on what I loved so much. I just enjoyed the vibe of this city.
Paris, I am going to come back for more of you.
Now for a disappointment, like it has happened on all of my good trips, something went wrong with my camera when we were in Montmartre. For those who don’t know, it is a very popular district in Paris where painters sit in streets painting passers by. Since its a hill, you can have a beautiful view of the entire city. Anyway, I am sharing whatever was clicked before the camera gave up.
Hope you enjoy this Paris photo tour.
