Well, yes, this is the 4th (yes, 4th) book that I read as part of the Brunch Book Challenge and as I said, I’ll be logging my opinion about every book that I read as part of this challenge. In case you want to participate in this challenge too, read up about it here.
Are you wondering how come 4th’s review after 16th? Actually, as you can see from the title, it’s not fiction. So I left reading it midway. 😛 I picked it up recently and completed it.
If you are thinking that why exactly I was reading this book as it is clearly meant for people below my age, then the answer is because I wanted to have a basic understanding of things and terms properly. I am not from Commerce background and I am quite ignorant when it comes to reading newspapers (working on it), I tried to use it as one of the steps towards changing my ignorance. I had actually taken up Economics as an elective in college once but that course mostly dealt with Mathematical formulas, marginal utilities etc but it was very interesting nonetheless.
I digress. About the book, I quite like it. It did not cover a lot of things because it did not intend to. This book was aimed at explaining the basic things of Economics and that it did in a very artful manner. What I mean is that the author has made an effort to make it appear like it’s an ongoing conversation, whenever a topic appears, it is explained with the help of examples. It feels like a classroom lecture with a teacher whom you actually want to listen to. Everything is written like it’s a conversation, so you actually gather the interest to make an effort at understanding. Full points for that! Only thing is that if you can get your hands on the class 11 and 12 CBSE Economics books, then you most likely would not need this because they cover most of the needed things to make you aware about the basic Economics and they are detailed enough to make you understand. Still, if you feel like you need a book that feels like a teacher sitting and explaining the terms to a student, you can go for it. 🙂
PS: I am not sure what all I remember, I’ll read few pages again sometime.
